Santa has came and went. It would appear that App developers are on his “Nice” list from early reports of increased downloads from the App Store and Android Market over the holidays. Mobilecrunch reported today that Flurry, one of the biggest Mobile App analytics companies has identified a 51% increase in downloads in December over November.
This is compared to a 15% increase in app downloads in November over October.
The increased download activity has a lot to do with Xmas presents. It appears that the iPod Touch was very popular because for the first time, downloads made by the iPod Touch have out-numbered those made on the iPhone.
Flurry also noted that the Android Market experienced increased download volume with a 20% increase in December. It isn’t much of a surprise that the new Motorola Droid has captured nearly half the market for Android app downloads with its increased functionality and shiny new features.
A few significant points to be made from this report include the importance of the App Store with it’s mature marketplace and still seeing big gains in usage. Secondly, if your building an App, make sure its available for Christmas!
